Reuleaux Triangle Bike
Description of project
This project is based on building a normal ordinary bike, but with wheels that are triangles of constant width (aka. Reuleaux triangle). The bike will have moving parts, the wheels specifically, but will have no chains, gears or chains. The triangle's constant width will be displayed by having a bumper that is a certain distance away from the ground. The bike will be bumpy as the wheels have a constant diameter but not radius. The bike will also lack any means of being ride-able, as that is not necessary to display the constant width of the wheels. My inspiration for this project comes from this image and video:
Expected concerns
- Creating a moving part will be very difficult as it requires high precision and may cause instability in the project's design.
- The Reauleaux triangle wheels have to be designed with high accuracy and detail to insure that they are of constant width.
- The rims may be a fragility point in the bike, meaning the have to be thick.
